self-assessment

At first transferring from high school to college was hard. In high school your lucky and a lot of the time all your teachers would remind you when things were due, accept things late and make sure you were doing all of your work. Here in college you are on your own. You have to be responsible and make sure you do the things that need to be done. You don’t get and extension to hand things in late and you aren’t reminded constantly when an assignment is due. At the very beginning every class gives out a syllabus and from then on you are to look at that and see when your things need to be handed in and what is due for the next class. The syllabus tells you from the first week of classes to the last and occasionally things are added and changed throughout the semester.

When I heard we had a class with the same group of students as our English I liked that idea. I thought it was a really good way to get everyone comfortable with the transferring from high school to college. In high school you have a lot of your classes with the same students. College is so big that you don’t get the same students unless you are able to sign up for the same class. Our class was a good one, we all got a long real well and we opened up with one another a lot. It was nice being with the same students and being able to make friendships. In a lot of my other classes I talk to people in there but in INQ and English we all get along and talk to one another. We are all comfortable in front of each other and we don’t feel weird expressing ourselves.

It took a little while for me to adjust to the syllabus. I wasn’t used to having to check something every week to see what was going on in class or what the assignments were. Teachers in high school tell you and you’re suppose to right it down. After getting used to the syllabus, I really like it. It’s a good way to become organized and being able to plan things out. I have always been an organized person and being able to write down when papers, tests, and projects are due is nice. You are able to get a head start on everything and you can plan out when you are going to do each so that way you aren’t doing everything at once and freaking out. I hated in high school when teachers would assign things at the same time and you have to rush to do everything all at once. In college if teachers assign things at the same time you know and can plan everything ahead because of the syllabus.

The biggest difference I see in college compared to high school is that you have to stay ahead of the game. You need to be on top of everything, checking when your things need to be handed in. In INQ we had to do blogs every week, this was new to me because I had never blogged before. I was nervous at first and really didn’t like the idea that people you really didn’t know could see things you were posting. Also what it was that I was going to write about. I liked when we had to write about something that was assigned. When we were able to write about anything we wanted I always figured out something to write about but it took me longer. Having something specific is good because it usually related to class and things we were discussing. After a while and looking at other peoples you see that you are all writing and expressing your own ideas and opinions on the different topics that Jen assigned us. It was cool seeing and reading everyone’s thoughts and all the different ways people made their blogs. This was a good way to practice your writing and being able to remember and make sure they were done on time and right.

I liked the Campus Safari’s. This was when you got to go around campus and do different things. Some being, go to a sports event, the multi-cultural center, radio station, the office of a major you are interested in, the library, heath center etc. These all got you to know where things on campus were and to check out different things. Some of the time when we went to different ones people were rude. For example when we went to the gym to see how many machines there were, the hours and classes you could take the people weren’t to friendly. This didn’t happen everywhere but it made you feel a little uncomfortable because you were doing this for a class assignment and they weren’t very helpful. A lot of the other safaris I did everyone was nice, and helped you out. I got a lot of information from many people. It was nice to have this activity because you get to know the campus more and meet more people.

Because of Inquiry I will remember to always check my syllabus. There were always articles on it that were to be read for the next class and usually we would discuss them and you would have to answer things Jen asked. If you didn’t read them you would be lost and when you had to hand in the class assignment and you had nothing you would get a zero. A lot of the articles were real interesting. Some articles were on time management, multi-tasking and others. They were all really good articles and you as a student could connect to them. We did a lot of connecting and reflecting of them in class.

Time management is key. Making time for everything is real important. In inquiry you learn this. When being assigned the mid term video I was really nervous. I had never made one before. The next week we had a rough draft due and some people had to show theirs. There were a lot of good videos some were more technology advanced than others but everyone tried their best and did well. This was also a way to go out of your comfort zone. You had to interview people that you may have never talked to before and ask them a specific question. I feel I learned a lot in Inquiry. Not just making sure I do all my assignments but how to manage time, going out of my comfort zone and doing different things around campus and to learn where things are. This class makes me understand how college will be and how you shouldn’t be afraid to express yourself. Everyone has their own ideas and opinions and its good to share them.

next semester

Next semester I hope my personal, social, and academic goals stay the same. This semester I made a lot of new friends and I know I will keep a lot of them. Its nice to know people around school because they know different people that they introduce you to and you introduce them to your friends so you get to know a lot.

Everyone's always nervous at first but once you make friends it makes everything a lot easier. You can help each other out with things, school work, different problems they are going through etc. Next semester I really like my schedule. I commute so the schedule I have is really nice. I'm only at Southern Mon, Tues and Wed. I have four classes on Tuesday and Thursday's and one class on Monday. It seems like a lot but this semester I also had four classes on Tues and Thurs and it wasn't bad.

One good thing about next semester classes is that I get done earlier than this one. I would get out at 6pm and that was a real long day but next semester I'm out by 4:15. I still plan to go to different events at Southern and to still hang out with my friends that live there. I want the college experience so I know I need to do different campus activities.

semester 1

At the beginning of this semester I was on top of everything. Making sure I did all of my assignments on time, studying a lot for each of my classes and starting things right away when I was assigned them. I've noticed now that toward the end of the semester I started slacking. I still do my work and make sure its complete but I know I could have done better.

Knowing the semester was ending and that we have a long break just made me not want to do anything. I did but it wasn't like normal. My motivation went down hill. Having so much work all of the time was a lot and stressful. The breaking coming will be good. I know though that I can't slack and will need to do good the next semesters.

I plan to make sure I am on top of all my work and that I make sure I don't slack and stay that way throughout the semester. I want to do good in school and I know being organized, studying a lot and doing everything will help me do well.

what i'll miss

I really liked having two classes with the same students. I enjoyed having the learning communities. I think that they made the transition from high school to college go a lot easier. Seeing the same group of kids in the same classes is a lot like high school. It's not exactly the same because you have college level work and thinking but it made it a lot easier to get used to the college experience.
It's going to be so different next semester meeting new people again. Having the same kids in two of my classes was really nice. We all got a long real well and we became good friends. We trust one another and are there to help each other out when needed. We all opened up a lot and shared some deep things. A lot of  people always think they are the only ones when something happens but you don't realize how many others have been through the same things as you or even worse.
I will miss seeing everyone in INQ and ENG. We all are comfortable around one another and get a long well. It made things a lot easier. We didn't have to worry about expressing ourselves, or sharing our ideas. No one judged you. A lot of us tried to get the same English next semester, some did but others either got an earlier time or a completely different teacher. A lot will be with each other again which is nice.

after college

After college my ideal life would be to be a nurse and be making really good money. I hope to have my own place and be able to afford everything on my own. I want to move away after college somewhere warm, California or Florida would be ideal. I love the weather there. I've been to both places and I love them. Also I hope to be with someone I could consider being with for the rest of my life. When I finish school i'll be twenty-three or four depending how long it takes me to finish.

I want to be with someone that has a good job and can support a family.  I'd like to start a family around age 25 or a few years older. When I have children I want to be able to stay home with them until I feel they are ready for a daycare. I'd want a husband that has a good job so I could be able to do that. I don't want to be someone that doesn't work, so I would go back to work once my kids are in a daycare.

rough draft

This is a draft of my video. It still needs work, I need help with a few things if any of you know. I can't figure out how to put parts of a video into mine and also I need help with the music. I have a song that I want but I'm not sure how to get it in. If you know please help! Any other thoughts or ideas would be great as well.

thanksgiving dinner

Every Thanksgiving my family always has so much food. Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, gravy, lasagna, vegetables, hot rolls, cranberry sauce (I love) corn, and more. It's always the time of year I eat whatever I want and how ever much I want.

This years Thanksgiving dinner was great. My dad made all of the food and there was tons. I ate a little bit of everything and after eating it all felt so sick. I ate way to much. It was a nice relaxing day, quiet and peaceful. We usually have dinner with my immediate family and then other family members stop by for desserts and to hangout later on during the day.

I made cookies, chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin, and a batch of brownies. I enjoy baking. It's something to do and a lot of fun. The smell of everything makes you can't wait to eat it. After eating the big meal and relaxing for a little while we had dessert. Pies, ice cream, cookies, brownies, etc. Everything was delicious.

psychology

One class that really interests me is psychology. Professor Lenny really makes the class interesting. Everything he talks about he has a story to help explain what it is we are discussing. He shows pictures, plays movies and uses his family, friends, neighbors and sometimes clients to help break down his purpose. He talks about so many different things, different types of psychologist, dreams, sleep, yourself, problems people face etc. He talked about how not getting enough sleep is really not good for you. He gave us a bunch of sleeping disorders one being Narcolepsy. The class is never boring. There is always something interesting to discuss and different things he shows about that topic. Having the photos, movies and different stories about his clients really helps you understand what it is that he wants to get across. It gives you a real example and makes more sense. If it was just a lecture where he talked all the time and didn't give those examples it would get boring. The way he teaches makes you engaged and want to know more.

Where I like to study

A place I like to study during my breaks at school is the library. It is very quiet and you can get all of your work done there. No one is there to bother you and if you don't have your computer the day your there you can use theirs to get your assignments done. Also all of the books are helpful for papers you are writing. Being able to study there and do your school work is great you don't have to worry about finding information, you have it all there.

I can't concentrate when there are people talking, and being loud the library is a place where you know you wont get that. I couldn't study in the student center it is way to loud and I would distract myself by all of the noise.

discussion..

Some students will try their hardest on an assignment and get a grade they didnt think they should get or deserve.  The type of student I am I start an assignment when its given to me unless I really cant then I wont.I put my all into something. There are times I think I deserve a really good grade and when I get the assignment back I got something less. It really all depends on your teacher. They all have their own way of grading and different opinions on how things should be done. You have some that are really lenient and others that are really challenging and hard. It's good to have both but they should all be fair. Putting in so much time and completing all the assignment requirements shouldn't give you a bad grade just not a perfect grade.

I know a lot of math teachers who will give grade curves and extra credit to the class because not everyone is doing well. I think that it's fair but not 100 percent right. The teacher has to do it the right way. There are kids in the class who get it and have A's so them doing extra credit really can't bring their grade up anymore. A student with a D or F I think should be able to bring it up with a C- or C if they are able to bring their grade up higher than that, it's just like the teacher is handing out the good grade to you. That doesn't teach you anything.

what relieves stress?

When I'm stressed out there are two different things I like to do. One being to shop. I love shopping. If I am in a bad mood or really annoyed shopping will fix it all. I love going to stores and looking through all the stuff. Shoes, purses, clothes, jewelry, you name it. It can be bad because yea you spend money, which I should save but there are just sometimes I want to buy stuff and spend it on myself. I love getting new things. I am pretty good though, I don't go all the time and when I do I usually have saved for it so I can buy what I want and not worry about what i'm spending.

Another thing that relieves my stress is going to the gym. I enjoy the gym and I do go everyday. If I miss a day I get disappointed in myself. Going to the gym makes me feel good. I like using the different machines,  and some weights. When i'm really annoyed and stressed out I work out even more because i'm angry. After though it feels great because I feel good and like the workout i've done. I get all the negativeness out and feel good an happy about myself and different things. The gym is definitely a good stress reliever and helps with keeping yourself in shape as well.

going out of my comfort zone..

The other day in Inquiry with time with Lee we did an activity called crossing the line. At first I was thinking to myself how I didn't want to do this. I felt like it was going to be really awkward and uncomfortable. I only really tell my personal stuff to my best friends or parents. I'm not open with new people because one I don't know them on that kind of level yet and two I worry about things being said that I don't want others to know. The people in my class are people I just met only a few months ago, they hardly know anything about me and they were going to find out things they never knew.

There were some really deep questions and then others that were not as personal. For the not so personal questions a lot of us crossed the line and the deeper ones sometimes only one or two people crossed. We all found out different things about one another that we would have never known. It was a very serious and quiet activity. Everyone let out things that have happened in their life and probably never thought others went through. Some others didn't but there were a few that you saw you weren't the only one that has gone through it.

For me this was out of my comfort zone but after doing it felt good. I let things out and people now know things about me and others. We all have to trust one another to not go around telling other people and not judging people because of mistakes or things they have done. Things that have happened make us who we are today.

mid-term grades

When I saw my mid-term grades most were okay but there were two I wasn't to crazy about. I know though that I can bring both those grades up and even my good grades. It's just a reflection of how I am doing so far and I know there will be more assignments to let me bring them up. They aren't my final grades so I'm not too worried.

I will study a lot more for both of those classes and make sure I don't miss any of the work. For my good classes I will continue to do what i've been doing but work a little harder as well to hopefully raise those. I think if they were my final grades i'd be unsatisfied with the two but the others would be acceptable.

Some goals i'd set for myself are:

1. study more
2. make sure all assignments are done
3. don't hand in anything late
4. don't wait last minute to finish something
5. think outside of the box, not just the norm

reflection..

After reading these articles students are expecting to receive high grades on assignments for just doing the bare minimum. I agree, honestly I can say that I used to be that way in high school. I would do everything the assignment required me to do and hand it in. When I got the assignment back and I received a low grade I didn’t understand why seeing I met all the requirements of the assignment. I would ask my teachers so I could do better the next time. Teachers need to tell us exactly what they require so we know and can do what they want in order to receive a good grade. In high school, college, even intermediate school. It’s not fair when you work hard on something put all the effort into the assignment and receive a C. If you know all requirements and expectations it gives you more of a chance to get the A or A-.

Schools shouldn’t raise their grading criteria, making it easier for students to receive high grades; I think that’s a terrible idea. It says that,” they are only trying to help their students so when they graduate they will have a better chance at obtaining a good job.” Job employers will see that the student did well but when seeing that getting a good grade was so easy it makes that person look lazy
and not really a caring person because they were handed the good grade.

I don’t think it would help anyone learn and be challenged. You need to receive bad grades here and
there in order to learn and be able to fix your mistakes. Being handed the good grade does not allow
any student to do that.

halloween

For my free choice blog I decided to write about the haunted hayride that I am in.

These next three weekends I am in a haunted hay ride. I've never been in one before but I live next to a farm and they asked my brothers, sister and myself to be in it. I don't like haunted things at all but being a person in it is okay because I wont get scared I just have to scare people. Last night was the first night and after getting ready for an hour making myself all bloody and scary it got canceled because of the rain.

We were all so excited to do it so tonight is the first night. I get to lay on a table with a huge saw all bloody and cuts and my sister has to pretend she is cutting me while I scream and try to get up. I probably will have no voice by the end of this. There are a lot of other things in the haunted hayride it goes far down into the woods. They made a huge trail and along the whole thing there are different things going on. I do wish I got to go on the ride just to see how it all is but I wont know because i'm in it. It will be fun the next three weekends.

We just got a peer mentor Lee she is awesome. Lee is a very real person and she will say exactly what she thinks. I like this about her. She doesn’t let things build up she expresses herself. Lee has been through a lot and changed her life and now is a new person. She makes Inquiry a lot of fun.

She wants us all to get involved with the campus and know so much about Southern. But most importantly, to find out whom we are.  She does different activities with us in class to let us open up and find out who we are. One activity she had us to was to write an " I am" poem. Many of us had trouble thinking of things to right because we still don't know who we are yet.

I think it’s really good to have a peer mentor because she has already been in our shoes before. She started off as a freshman not knowing much and now will be graduating knowing what she wants in life and knowing the person she is.

Lee is someone we can all go to, to ask questions and get advice. She is very outgoing and helpful. I’m glad we got a peer mentor because now we have her for questions and updates on different things and also her opinion.

Everyone asks you what you want to be when they are older. I've known for a long time that I want to become a nurse. I enjoy helping people as much as I can. I was there all the time for my grandpa when he was really sick and when he was in and out of the hospital I would always ask the nurses what they were doing and why. There were even times I got to help them. My grandpa had to have X-rays and the nurse let me in the little side room with her and I got to take the pictures. It always interested me, helping him so much and seeing that you can make someone feel better and more comfortable really made me want to be able to do that.

It is a great career and nurses are needed all of the time but it is a very hard program to get into. Not only here at Southern but all different schools that offer it as well. You have to work really hard and put in all of your time to it. You need to be able to get 100's on your test. Would you want a nurse that got 80's on her tests to take care of you? I sure wouldn't, you want one that knows everything they are doing and doing it the right way. One little mistake could lead into serious problems.

I hope to get into the nursing program and be able to do what I've always wanted to be. It will be difficult but in the end definitely worth it. Helping people and trying to make their lives better and the pay nurses get is great as well.

Are you a good blogger?

~ The personal nature of the blog is what they find appealing.  ~

I think a good blog post would be lyndsay lockhart 's she connects with the reader and draws attention so people want to read her post. A good blog post is about being creative and being able to connect with the reader.  She does this in her blogs. By being creative the writer should include things that can help us know them as a person. She did this by her choice of words, pictures, and titles of the posts. You should be able to connect with the reader.

If you can write about something that someone else has done, gone through or enjoys, they can relate to you and feel comfortable. Another thing to make a good post would be a picture. Pictures brighten up a blog and grab the reader’s attention. You don’t need many pictures one or two is enough but those pictures make a huge difference on your blog. Pictures help you connect to almost anything. When you see a blog that doesn’t always have pictures you think that it is going to be boring. You most likely skip that one and choose a different one. Being able to grab the reader’s attention right away is key.

I think the most important part to making a good blog post is how clear you make it so the readers understand exactly what your trying to say.  If it isn’t fluent the reader will get distracted and annoyed and want to read something different. You want your audience to be engaged and understand everything you are trying to say.

digital storytelling...

My inquiry topic I am doing my digital storytelling project is on the article 10,000 hours for success. The question I am asking is can people become great at something by just practice or does it have to do with the brain? Are people born with talent? What do you think?

This article talks about practicing something makes a person better at it. There are different ways to look at this. People can be born with talent. Each person is different and everyone has different genes. It can be genetic, some people have relatives who are great at sports and they can be just like them. There are natural athletes’; it comes to them right away and there are people who need to practice until they get it. The environment also plays a role in this. If you have good support it makes someone want to become better and helps him or her get motivated. If you want to do something you may once or twice and then put it off. Having people motivate you and support what you want to do makes it better for you and helps you become good.

Managing your time wisely..

How do you manage your time? Are you someone who is very organized or do you lack in fitting in everything? If you're organized you are good with time managing if not try to help yourself and write things down. Making time for everything is very important. Things I have done to help me with managing my time are writing it down on a calendar, and filling in my assignment book with everything that needs to get done.  I find it very helpful to write everything down. If you know ahead of time that something needs to be done it will be easier for you than cramming in something last minute. That also helps me because I work, if I know something needs to be done I will do it before work so it’s done and I don’t have to worry about it after.

calendar2.jpg

You need to make time not just for schoolwork but yourself, socializing, sleep, eating, exercise, and work. All of these things are important. If you don’t have a schedule you can stress yourself out, get overwhelmed and not have enough time to fit things in. Planning out your week ahead of time would really help because you would know everything you need to do and can make times to finish everything. Time management is really helpful. It not only explains time management but also gives you tips on how you can use your time wisely. Making good choices lead to good results, where bad choices just results in wasting time.

~Your blog is your unedited version of yourself. ~ -lorelle

Everyone has something they collect, love, and are obsessed with. I love purses. I can’t get enough of them. Juicy, Coach, Dooney and Bourke, Michael Kors, and Steve Madden are some of the designers of my purses.  I found the blog purses all on different bags. It tells you the new purse of the week, different designers, links to purchasing purses, and all information on fashion. It really caught my attention because this is something I am in to.

I like big purses; I haven’t carried around a small bag in a long time. The only time I will carry something small is if I go out somewhere nice or to an event I will bring a wristlet. Something for just the things I need because I don’t want to carry around my big bag. I pretty much put my whole life in my bag. If you are someone who is into fashion and loves purses like me this blog will interest you with all the information.  It has links to blogs that are related to fashion that are also very interesting and give you tips. For example this blog what to wear gives you tips on what make up to use and clothing styles.

What do you think of tattoos? Some people think they are gross, would never get one, will regret it in the future etc. I personally like tattoos. I have one tattoo right now and I want to get at least one or two more.  The tattoo I have right now is angel wings and they say poppy for my grandpa that passed away. It is something I will never regret and it something that means a lot to me. One thing that does bother me is when someone gets a tattoo just to get one. I do think that if you get something that is going to
be on your body forever it should have a meaning to it. Not just to have one because other people do.

I found a blog on tattoos, "check out my ink" this talks about people and their tattoos. Why they got them, tattoo categories, images etc. A lot of people get stuck on what to get or need to see some to have a better idea on what they want. Checking out this blog can help you find ideas and see what other peoples look like. They also show you different places you can get them.

10,000 hours for Success

In this article the author talks about how practicing something makes a person better at it. Is that true? Can people really become great at something just by practice or does it have to do with the brain to? I believe it can and can’t be. Practicing something over and over again can make you better as long as you are practicing it the right way. Some people how ever practice things but don’t know exactly how to do it correctly in the first place. How can that make a person better? Some people just don’t have the skills to do certain things. It can come faster to some than to others.

I do believe that talent has something to do with being good. It’s not just practice. You are born with certain talents, different from everyone else. When you’re little and start sports you try different ones some you hate and others you love. The ones you love and get are the ones you stick with. When you keep playing over and over that makes you a better player and more successful than someone who starts playing years later than you. Some things you are better at than others. It’s normal; the world wouldn’t be diverse if everyone was good and bad at the same things. People do challenge themselves to get better though. If you set a higher goal for yourself to be better then what it is you can do, reaching that will make you more successful.

Research has suggested that once you have enough talent into what it is you love, the thing that distinguishes one from another is how hard you work on it. I do agree. Like I said if you get it and love the thing right away you will practice and stick with that to become better.

The interesting first 2 weeks...

An obstacle I faced in the first two weeks of college is finding a parking space every morning and embarrassed to say I missed my first class. The first day of classes I left early I wanted to make sure I got there in enough time and got to class on time. Well that was a failure. I picked up two of my friends that also commute we got there twenty minutes before classes started so we went straight to the garage, of course it was full. No surprise at all!  So we decided to check the other close lot and what do you know that was full. So we had to park at the farthest one. After we got to Engleman I kept walking because I wrote down my class was in Jennings. So I go to the room I wrote down and I was already late because of my parking issue. I apologize for being late and he asks my name. It was not on the teachers list, he had me write my name and I sat down. As soon as I sat down he asked if I was there for math 108? As soon as I heard that I was so embarrassed it was the wrong class and room.  I got up and walked out, every one knew I was definitely a freshman.

I call my mom and tell her my embarrassing story, she had to sign into mySCSU and figure out where I was suppose to be. Well it was pretty much to late now. Class was ending shortly and I had to walk back to Engleman because that’s where I was supposed to go. I ended up waiting for the class to end. I was nervous I didn’t know what to expect when I went to talk to my professor. But once it was over I walked in and introduced myself to my professor and apologized for missing class and told him what had happened. He understood completely and gave me the syllabus. After that I felt relieved because he then knew I didn’t skip his class on purpose I just made a mistake.

After facing these two obstacles I now get to Southern early and make sure I am on time for all of my classes. It is embarrassing but now when I think back on it, it’s funny and I will always remember my first day of college.

What College is to me

What is college? College is described as an institution of higher education created to educate and grant degrees. Is that really all college is? No, I believe college is a new beginning, a new chapter in your life and one of the most important. It’s a new place where you create your future. A place where you meet new people and friends you’ll have forever. Yes, college consists of a lot of work and time management skills but it’s to better yourself and become the person you want to be. It’s to reach and achieve the goals you’ve had for yourself. Now’s the time these can be done. Getting an education so you can become what you’ve dreamed of.

There are fun things about college as well; getting involved with the community, going to sport events, going out on weekends, parties etc. If you commute to school like I do you can spend time at your friends dorms, and experience the other part of college life. College is being able to come out of your shell and to be yourself. You are starting off just like everyone else, not knowing to many people. Don’t be nervous about being yourself, people will accept whoever you are.

What I want to get out of Southern is a great education. I want to become a nurse, my dream sense I was little. Also I want to have a great experience with new people, and to have an amazing social life. Even though I commute I believe I can get involved at Southern and have the same experience as students who live on campus.

Getting to know me

Love- I am a very loving person. I love my family and friends. I’m there for them whenever they need me. I’d stop anything to help them out and they know they could come to me for help anytime. When my grandpa was alive we were really close. He had been in and out of the hospital for a while. Every time he went in I’d be there right by his side until whatever time they let him leave. I wanted to be there for him and make him feel safe and comfortable anyway that I could. He didn’t like it at all and was scared. Every time he was there I’d make sure that I was there right by his side with my mom. Helping him all the time made me want to be there for others and help as much as I can. This is why I some day will become a nurse. Helping others out and making them comfortable and hopefully better is something I want to do.

Family- I am very family oriented. My family means the world to me. We are all very close. I have three brothers, a sister, my mom and dad. I’m the second oldest, which is good but in some ways bad. I have an older brother who is very protective of me. He’s not the only one though, my younger brothers think they can protect both my sister and I. It’s nice that they care but believe me it could get annoying. Our family is there for each other all the time. Anytime I need to make a decision about something I know I can go to any one of them for help and they will give great advice and be there for me.
Outspoken- Being outspoken is a good and bad thing. I never was outspoken until I was older. When I was younger and something bothered me I just let it go or ignored the situation. If a friend and I got into a fight and it bothered me I wouldn’t say anything. I’ve learned not to do that. Now that I’m older and more mature I’ve learned that you need to tell people how you feel. It could cause problems, which aren’t good, but if you let someone take advantage and get away with something that hurts you, they’ll think it’s right. There are times and places when it’s okay to express your feelings without causing a scene. If something bothers you, don't be afraid say how you feel, everyone has the right to express their feelings.

Two other qualities that I have are hardworking and responsibility. I am a very hard worker. I work two different jobs that I still work every week. Over the summer I would work every day but it had to be cut down for school. When I got my license I really wanted a car my parents wouldn’t just hand me a car they wanted me to take responsibility. They took me to the dealer ship and I got to pick out what I wanted, but the deal was I had to make monthly payments. They pay the insurance and with my work money that I like spending on shopping, I pay monthly payments. I’ve been doing this for over a year now. It’s hard but saving my money the right way I can do both shop and pay for my car. It’s a good responsibility and I know they do this so I know what it will be like when I get a good job and have to work hard so I can pay other bills when I’m on my own.
